Police search for shooter after two teens injured in shooting at North Point Mall carnival

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Detectives in Alpharetta are interviewing witnesses as they try to track down a shooter who injured two teens at a carnival in the parking lot of North Point Mall Wednesday night.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. when police said a young man opened fire, injuring two teen girls, ages 15 and 18. One victim was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The other was airlifted. Police said Thursday the two were listed in stable condition and they were not identifying the victims at this time.

“It’s definitely a concern. No one likes the idea of someone running around who’s armed and dangerous,” Concerned Parent Jacquie Erickson said.

Officers found a handgun while canvassing the area Wednesday night but said the shooter ran away from the scene.

“We do not know what the motive was, what transpired that led to the firearm going off,” said Lt. David Freeman. “But this does appear to be an isolated incident and the citizens of Alpharetta and our community and patrons here that come to the mall, nobody is in danger at this time.”

The carnival reopened Thursday less than 24-hours after the shooting and is scheduled to be set up at North Point Mall through Sunday.

“We pulled into the parking lot looking for the dates and times and stuff to get tickets and go but after hearing that that’s not something you want to express much interest in,” Carnival goer Lilly Phillips said.
