First Alert Forecast | Winter’s cold is back... back again!
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A cold start to the weekend is about to trend even colder as a fresh batch of winter cold filters into tonight and Sunday. It’s time to pull the winter coat back out, if you haven’t already done so.
A Freeze Warning is in effect for all of North Georgia tonight and Sunday morning. Another freeze is expected Sunday night into Monday morning; possibly a third Monday night into Tuesday morning in many communities.
Clouds moved in earlier this evening; keeping temperatures in the 40s in most communities. As clouds clear a bit late tonight, temperatures will cool at a quicker rate. If you have unprotected sensitive plants, cover them or bring them indoors before you go to sleep. Temperatures are forecast to bottom-out in the upper 20s and lower 30s across Metro Atlanta before 9 a.m. Sunday.
The back-half of the weekend features a mix of sun and wispy high clouds. A reinforcing push of colder air filters in. Sunday afternoon temperatures are forecast to only peak in the mid to upper 40s across Metro Atlanta; even colder up in the mountains. Once again, a breeze will add to the cold factor. It’ll feel like it’s in the 30s through the afternoon, in many neighborhoods.
Keep a coat around.
The forecast remains cold and dry through the start of the workweek. Another widespread freeze is in the forecast Sunday night and Monday morning. A third freeze is possible - mainly outside of Atlanta proper - Monday night into Tuesday morning. A more noticeable warming trend carries us into the middle of the week as the next storm system approaches North Georgia. A few showers are possible Wednesday, especially north of Metro Atlanta.
A better chance of rain and storms approaches our are Friday or Friday night. Keep an eye on the forecast if you have plans.
Have a great rest of your weekend,
Cutter
