Kennesaw State loses to Xavier in March Madness
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Kennesaw State University fell short against Xavier University in their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.
The score was 72-67.
What a season for KSU but the Owls fall short in their 1st ever Big Dance appearance. They missed 10 FGs in a row, didn’t score for almost 8 mins in the 2nd half. Their shots weren’t falling & Xavier made the most of it. Kennesaw State falls 72-67 🦉🏀 @ATLNewsFirst— Emily Gagnon (@Emily_Gagnon) March 17, 2023
Students and other fans gathered in the Convocation Center on KSU’s campus to watch the game, which was played in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The crowd was energetic as the KSU Owls held a lead for part of the game and was tied a few times. Despite a loss in the end, students are very proud of the team.
“I’m still going to be outside that bus when they get here cheering them on because that was an amazing season,” said student Chad Andrews.
“To come down to the last seconds, last play, it’s heartbreaking,” said student Derrick Dawson.
“Hopefully it becomes an annual thing to meet in March and watch the game,” said Dawson.
Many students hope this was the first of many tournament appearances.
“I’m sad but the boys killed it,” said sophomore Natalia Gumbs. “I’m so proud of them, they were going against a three seed and they kept that lead.”
The March Madness appearance has been good exposure for KSU.
“It’s so exciting to get to have this to share with people and we’re so incredibly proud,” said freshman Brooke Stegall, who is a campus tour guide. “Now getting to brag about this, this is such an awesome achievement.”
