Atlanta’s own Ryan Cameron celebrates Pi Day with ‘Dough Boy Pizza’
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - It’s Pi Day!
Pi Day is celebrated annually on Mar. 14. it was chosen because numerically it represents the first three digits of pi: 3.14. Restaurants and bakeries across the country will be holding discounts in honor of Pi Day.
Prominent Atlanta radio personality and philanthropist Ryan Cameron and chef and restaurant chain owner Erica Barrett with “Dough Boy Pizza” joined Atlanta News First to talk about the pizza brand on Pi Day.
Dough Boy Pizza is a Neapolitan-style pizza, with other delicious menu items, according to Cameron and Barrett. The Atlanta metro location is the 11th franchise to open across the United States.
“Black people couldn’t even go inside the South DeKalb Mall when it first opened so it was kind of like a full circle moment to open not only on National Pizza Day but during Black History Month,” Cameron said.
Barrett knows that Dough Boy Pizza is a newly-styled pizza shop that stands out and all generations will love.
“First thing is, our crust is vegan. We have something for everybody, doesn’t matter what your diet is,” Barrett said. “You have the right to either choose a specialty pie or your own. We have countertop ovens and really, really cool ventless ovens. They’re super fast and we’re getting the pizza in and out in between three and five minutes.”
“I was down in Birmingham, Al with Erica at one of her restaurants and she showed me this dynamic pizza concept. It was this smart kitchen with pizzas ready and they were absolutely delicious,” said Cameron.
The location of Dough Boys Pizza in the Gallery at South DeKalb had been dormant for the past six years, according to Cameron. Barrett and Cameron originally wanted to open the franchise around December 2022 and then January, but they decided to open on Feb. 9. The opening date was during Black History Month and National Pizza Day.
“I was thinking why not open during Super Bowl weekend and it was perfect,” Cameron said. “For me the Galleria at South DeKalb Mall, shout out to Tenae who is a good friend of mine. I’ve been doing my health fair there for many, many years. If Santa Claus came, or the Halloween Carnival. So, we’ve kind of had a partnership for many, many years.”
Cameron is the voice of America, having trademarked the title given to him by Atlanta Magazine.
He’s won two local Emmy Awards, been nominated for two National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Awards is a member of the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.
