Restaurant Report Card: Negril ATL scores 49; Gruby’s earns 100

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - At Atlanta’s old Fire Station 11, there’s an emergency of sorts at a popular Caribbean restaurant located inside the building.

Negril ATL scored 49 points and a “U” for unsatisfactory. The report says fried chicken was at an unsafe temperature. Plus, black slimy mold-like build-up inside the ice machine. And there was mold-like growth on strawberries inside the cooler.

“We would never serve moldy strawberries,” Negril ATL Manager Kenyetti Dorsett said.

Management told us they corrected the violations, but we found one that still needed their attention. They posted an old score of 88 points instead of their current score of 49 points.

“I’m very confident in our brand, I’m confident in our building, and I’m very confident that we will correct any issue that they found,” Dorsett said.

There are several other good scores to report around metro Atlanta. In Gwinnett County, a good showing for NCG Cinema on Rockbridge Road. The Stone Mountain cinema picked up 91-points on a re-inspection. In Cherokee County, Salt Factory Pub on Main Street in Woodstock is back on track scoring a 94 on a re-inspection. And in Cobb County, Ted’s Montana Grill on Cobb Place Lane in Kennesaw earned 97-points.

And at Gruby’s New York Deli on Johnson Ferry Road in Atlanta, they received a 100 on their last health inspection. They are the winner of this week’s Golden Spatula Award. They’ve been in business for about 20 years and the owner is from the Bronx. When you step inside you feel like you’re in a deli in New York City. The food is authentic because get their bread and bagels from New York. On the menu, you can start with the SOHO cobb salad. They also have the Nova Lox platter with a bagel, a bacon cheeseburger, and the Bronx bomber sandwich.
